About Us
The Champlain Valley Transportation Museum was originally conceived by
Dr. Anthony Anthony Vaccaro as a "Lozier Museum".
As that concept developed, the scope
of the museum was broadened to include
multiple forms of transportation.
Vaccaro,
after moving to the Plattsburgh, learned of the legendary Plattsburgh
based Lozier Automobile Manufacturing Plant.
This facility produced some of the worlds finest luxury
automobiles. A car enthusiast, Vaccaro began
collecting Lozier history eventually
restoring a 1915 Lozier. In the process of
discovering the Lozier history Vaccaro began
to formulate the idea of a Lozier Museum.
Dr.
Vaccaro mentioned his ideas at home . His
daughters immediately saw the
opportunity for children to join in and have
a fun learning experience. Upon considering
the mutual goals of a Lozier Gallery and a
Children's Museum the idea of a Champlain
Valley Transportation Museum was
introduced by Bruce Carlin, a marketing and
advertising agency owner, and friend and
business associate Dr. Vaccaro.
In 2000 a
core of community-minded people began the Champlain
Valley Transportation Museum. Former
Plattsburgh Mayor John Ianelli, his wife
Helen, attorney Susanna Piller, Debby Powers,
Ronald Venne and
Vaccaro's wife
Joanne formed the initial group. They worked
to obtain a provisional New York State
Education Charter and formed a
501-3-C corporation not-for-profit
corporation.
The museum
has had the good fortune to work with the City of Plattsburgh,
PARC, the Plattsburgh Airbase Redevelopment
Corp. and Battle of Plattsburgh Association
to presently become located in a series of
buildings on the "Old Plattsburgh Air
Base".
A series of presentations to the public recruited more interested people as members.
