 ·         CVTM invites you to A Whimsical World, an interactive art exhibit for kids, produced by children’s author Jan Stanley and illustrator Tamia Gastio. Enjoy crafts, book signing and Family Fun.

  • Our HO Gauge Model Railroad Diorama interprets the history of the D&H Railroad in the Champlain Valley

  • Lionel D&H layout against a Adirondack mural created by artist William Crosby

  • A Photographic exhibit of the Plattsburgh Traction Co. from 1895-1929

  • The Racing Room features racing memorabilia and race cars from 1910-1980

  • Display of the 1820 Sailing Ferry-The Weatherwax

 ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC CAR EXHIBIT

·         This exceptional exhibit features Antique and Classic Cars from early 1900 to the present, including recent additions of a 1914 Lozier type77 and a 1927 Pierce Arrow.

  • On Museum Day, Special Collections invites the public to view three films, showing continuously between 10am and 4pm: Northward to Freedom, a locally produced film created by the Red Hummingbird Foundation, which highlights Northeastern New York’s Champlain Line of the Underground Railroad; The Grand Adirondack Camps, an A&E Production; and A Proud Past, A Strong Future, a 1988 PSTV film written by SUNY Plattsburgh College Historian Douglas R. Skopp and Dores Candussi, that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of SUNY Plattsburgh.

 

  • Special Collections will also host the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association’s display, “The John Thomas Story.”  John Thomas was an Adirondack pioneer and fugitive slave from Maryland who died a free citizen of Franklin County .

  • New exhibit open- Celebrating the Tercentenary of Lake Champlain in 1909
  • See a mini-exhibit on Samuel de Champlain. 
  • See exhibits on Textiles, Redford Glass and visit the Music Room.
  • The War Room highlights artifacts from the discovery of Lake Champlain through the War of 1812.
  • Clinton County Historical Association will be hosting a children's "Boats and Lighthouses" program, limited to group of 10 at a time, 10:30 AM , 12:00 , 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM .  Ages 8 to 13. First come first serve, but a sign up sheet will be available. FREE.

Children will build a small ship to take home, learn about shipping on the lake, the lighthouse and how lighthouses used to work via Fresnel lenses (prisms).  Hands-on interactive program - class lasts about 40 minutes. Program is funded by money from Stewart's Foundation.

    North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association 
  • North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association: ”A Risky Business,”  a display to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the martyrdom of John Brown  who was convicted of treason and hanged in 1859 for leading an armed attack on the federal arsenal at Harper’s Ferry.
  • Lee Clark will portray Adirondack guide Billy Nye who “came very near” going with Brown. In addition, we will illustrate the story of William G. Brown, a Methodist cabinet maker, who was hanged in effigy in Plattsburgh for assisting fugitive slaves on the Underground Railroad.
  • At the New York State Historical Association Conference at SUNY Plattsburgh from 8:30-10 am , we will share the story of “The Champlain Valley’s Underground Railroad Canadian Connections.”
  • At Feinberg Library’s Special Collections we will have our display on Adirondack pioneer John Thomas who was a fugitive from slavery in Maryland and died a free citizen of Franklin County . Special Collections will also show our DVD, Northward to Freedom.

  • See Fanny Hall’s office and apothecary shop where she provided medical care to members of the greater Plattsburgh community, an office that has been closed since her death in 1913. 

  • See Frances Henrietta Delord’s bedroom for the first time in more than a decade.

  • Special activities for children will take place on the grounds and in the Carriage Barn.

  • Tour the house, grounds, and gardens.
